Your Family Deserves More Than A Decoy
How does a burglar think?
In cooperation with the Columbus, Ohio police, three convicted burglars recently shared insider tips about how they burglarized homes.
One former burglar specifically mentioned decoy security products: “[those] little signs they put out? Well most times, it’s a decoy.”
Examples of decoy security objects include fake security cameras, surveillance company stickers and sensor-triggered dog bark recordings. While these devices have potential to deter a rookie intruder, they do not offer a guarantee.
If your home features decoy security methods, or you’re looking to implement decoy security devices in your home, consider the following.
Cheap Decoys Come With A Cost
A family on a budget may be tempted to opt for alternative security measures. While the cost of a decoy may be cheap (stickers and yard signs can be found online for under $10), a professionally installed security system is much better equipped to protect property assets and family safety.
A reliable security provider monitors your home day and night, throughout the year, and is the first to alert authorities in an emergency. Without a system like this in place, detection and alert falls exclusively on you—a heavy risk to shoulder.
Weigh security system costs against potential losses in insurance claims, stolen or damaged assets and, most importantly, the lives of your loved ones, and the investment benefits are obvious. You can’t put a price tag on safety.
Visual Deterrents Help
That said, visual deterrents can help when paired with a legitimate security system. Signage provides unexpected visitors or potential intruders the benefit of a warning, and the presence of video cameras outside the home can ward off intruders.
Remember, though, that thieves know the difference between legitimate alarm and security signage versus generic signs available on the Internet. And officially branded signs need to be backed up with the same genuine and protective program.
Ultimately, the only sure-fire way to keep criminals out of your home is through a regularly monitored and updated surveillance and alarm system.
