Art MillerAt just 30 years old, Charlene Dupree suffered a stroke. Suddenly, everyday tasks became more challenging and living alone brought a new set of concerns.
"I was living by myself and I just wanted to feel safe," Charlene said.
She reached out to Vector Security and what began as a need for basic protection – monitored burglar and fire alarms – became the start of a relationship that has lasted for decades and grown alongside generations of her family.
Vector Security now not only protects Charlene, but her son and her grandchildren as well. She describes her relationship with Vector Security as “something of a miracle.”
When Family Moved Next Door
When Charlene's son moved into the home next door with his wife and three young children, she wanted to be able to keep an eye on them for safety. But the problem was there were no windows on the side of Charlene's home facing her son's property.
So once again she reached out to Vector Security. The next day, a sales rep from the Savannah, GA branch came out to Charlene’s home, walked the yard with her, and listened as she described her needs: she wanted to be able to see her son's home, know when family members were visiting, and watch her dogs while they were in the backyard.
But most of all, she wanted the peace of mind that comes from knowing the people she loves are safe.
Together, they mapped out camera locations that would give Charlene visibility where she needed it most. One camera provided a view toward her son's home while another allowed her to check on her dogs throughout the day.
The solution gave Charlene something she didn’t have before: a window into both sides of her life.
Today, she can use the mobile app to check her son’s property, look in on her dogs, and watch her grandchildren run across the yard between the two homes.
The outdoor cameras have quickly become Charlene's favorite part of the system, not because they are the newest feature, but because of what they let her see.
"I really enjoy having those cameras and being able to look in, whether I'm home or not," she said.
Protecting Both Sides of the Yard
Once Charlene could see what the cameras added to her own life, her thoughts turned to her son and his family.
"If I'm protected, I want my children and my grandchildren protected too," she said.
She asked Vector Security to return, this time to install burglar and fire alarms as well as a video doorbell at her son's home.
Now, what started as protection for one person living alone reaches across the yard to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren – protection for three generations.
Service That Feels Like Family
While the cameras help Charlene stay close to her family, the people at the Vector Security Savannah branch have made her feel cared for in a different way.
Because the stroke affected the mobility in her hands, Charlene has difficulty removing the battery from her video doorbell when it needs to be charged. So a rep from the office comes over and removes it whenever the battery runs low. Charlene charges it, lets him know when it is ready, and he returns to put it back.
"They just look after me," she said. "All of the people that I've worked with from the Savannah office have been top-notch."
Safe at Home, Close to the People She Loves
Over the last two decades, Charlene's system has grown with her life and family. It was there when she needed to feel safe. It expanded when her family moved next door. Now, it helps her watch her grandchildren and see what her dogs are up to.
Just as important, there are people she trusts when she needs help.
For Charlene, all of those pieces come back to what she was searching for years ago. "Being able to feel safe in your own home," she said, "you just cannot put a price on that."
